August Focus: Picnic/Beach Games
Saturday Nights: 7-10PM
August is the heart of Summer so here are our suggestions for games to bring on a picnic or to the beach...

Kubb
This Viking game is over 1000 years old, but it is new to us and has quickly become our favorite outdoor game. Up to 12 people can play at once in this group “horseshoe style” tossing game. Kubb is very portable and works great on grass, sand, or snow.

Settlers Dice
Mayfair has a brand new dice game based on the wildly popular Settlers board game. The dice game is lighter and much faster to play. Like Yahtzee, roll a set of dice 3x and save the ones you like. Gain points by building roads, settlements, cities, and knights.
LCR
Roll 3 special dice and pass chips to the left, right, or center. The last person with chips wins. Often played as a gambling game by adults, LCR is also great for kids. It is easy to come back from behind so you're never out of the game.

Ingenious Travel Edition
This is a great 2 person version of Ingenious the board game. From the incredible designer Reiner Knizia this game is perfect for taking on a trip or picnic. Good strategy for ages 8+. The pieces fit into grooves and the score markers are pegs to keep everything from sliding around.

Backgammon
Backgammon has evolved from a couple of different ancient Egyptian games Senet and Ur. A classic 2 person game that uses strategy and the roll of dice to get your pieces around the board.
Ticket To Ride—Card Game
Finally, new to the world of card games, Days of Wonder has added Ticket to Ride. This is a sleek slightly trimmed down version of the board game that also adds a few new game elements. As with the board game, it’s easy to learn and fun to play.
